Locksmith
In general, a locksmith is not our best buddy. Of course, they can address the issue at hand in a short period of time, but they are also very expensive. They can charge you up to a few hundred euros, especially late at night, on weekends, or on holidays. Your key naturally decided to malfunction at the worst possible time. Thankfully, we have a tonne of advice that will help you avoid paying a large price.
Destroyed key
Can you find a key fragment protruding from the lock? Grease the lock with some oil or WD-40. The best option is WD-40 because you can spray it as close to the key as you can using the long, thin nozzle. Spray the oil into the lock with caution, in the space between the key and the cylinder. Don’t be hesitant to use a lot of oil. The broken key should then be removed using a pair of pliers.
Too serious
Are you unable to reach the broken key because it broke inside the lock? Don’t lose hope; it can always be fixed quickly and simply with a few tools. You may, for instance, extract the remaining portion of the key using a powerful magnet. Of course, not everyone has a powerful magnet, and this approach might not work if the key is extremely stuck. Tweezers or a straightened paper clip are more options. If none of that succeeds, you can think about applying glue to the other half of the key and inserting it back into the lock over the jammed portion. You can take the entire key out after the adhesive has dried.

Cutting tool
This approach will definitely work. A little saw blade from a jigsaw, similar to the one in the image below, is what you need. Consider using a hacksaw blade if you can. extremely fine teeth and an extremely thin blade are ideal. Cut the saw blade with a pair of pliers so that the end is not smooth and has teeth. Make sure the blade’s tip has a big tooth on it.
How does it function?
With the teeth facing you, insert the saw blade into the lock. In this way, you get something that resembles a little fishing rod that you can swivel the key with. Try to extract the key by raising and lowering the saw blade. You may need to try a few times before the broken key comes out of the lock.

The key came out of the lock, but did you manage it? Great ! Get a spare key from a neighbour, relative, or friend who has one; that’s all that’s left to do. missing a spare key? Then, if the key is split into two clean pieces, the neighbourhood locksmith will be able to duplicate it. Changing the lock is the only option left if that doesn’t work.
