Cracking a whip against hoarding and black marketing of Kerosene oil in different areas of Pulwama, authorities on Sunday sealed five depots and seized 1.50 lakh litres of illegally dumped Kerosene oil during multiple raids which were carried out in Pampore, Awantipora and Kakapora .
Local residents informed The News Idea that a number of kerosene oil dealers wielding political influence had been indulging in hoarding and black marketing of kerosene oil in nexus with some officials of the concerned department and due to which they were being deprived of the essential commodity .
The residents said that they approached authorities ample times in past couple of years but nothing was done to stop this malpractice.
However, locals heaved a sigh of relief when they found multiple teams under the leadership of Deputy Commissioner Pulwama carrying out raids at various kerosene depots in Pampore, Awantipora and Kakapora areas of Pulwama.
During these raids around 1.5 lakh litres of Kerosene Oil, which were illegally dumped, were seized. Five depots operating illegally with out documents were also sealed, Tehsildar Pampore, Ishtiyaq Mohi ud Din said.
“Multiple FIRs under the stringent sections 3/7 of Essential Commodities Act, 1955 have been lodged against the culprits with arrests made, besides sealing of such premises being illegally used to store controlled commodity,” Deputy Commissioner Pulwama, Raghav Langhar said in a press note.
The DC said that cognisance was taken on repeated complaints being received regarding the illegal sales of Kerosene oil by some licensed Kerosene Oil dealers and other miscreants along national highway .
He added that Kerosene is a controlled commodity and was being illegally sold to some transporters , filling stations ,hot wet mix plants and stone crushers in violation of law and rules. He further added that illegal sales and siphoning of Kerosene oil has led to deprivation of the same to thousands of AAY & PHH ration card holders, for whom this subsidised commodity is actually meant.
During the raids many irregularities in distribution of the essential commodity were found which include non maintenance of stock register, sale details, lack of receipts and challans.
The Deputy Commissioner directed for immediate cancellation of licenses of those dealers found involved in the illegal act.
The Assistant Director Food and civil supplies was also directed to lodge FIR against Tehsil Supply Officer (Kerosene) Pulwama in view of his prime facie involvement in the crime.
Deputy Commissioner Pulwama also issued an order for decanting the Kerosene oil at destined locations in the district in presence of the respective Tehsildars for verification of quantities decanted under certification of Tehsildar/TSO.
