THE NEWS IDEA Impact : The authorities in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district have called a camp on Wednesday at Awantipora to address drought like conditions and complaints of irrotational water scarcity in the area.
The order from DC Pulwama came a day after TNI reported that
Paddy in few villages of Awantipora Pulwama are drying due to non-avalibilty of irrigational water.
It was reported by TNI that Paddy in several villages of Awantipora area of Pulwama district are drying due to drought like condition and non-avalibilty of irrational water.
Locals of Reshipora, Badherwan, Renzipora and Gulzarpora had narrated to The News Idea on 17 Aug, 2020 that the irrigation canals are not maintained properly by government authorities and even bore wells are not being dug in order to save paddy from drought like condition.
The News Idea on 17th Aug carried a video story about the drought like condition in Awantipora villages and reached to district adminstration Pulwama for the said issue. The district adminstration Pulwama on 18th Aug released a press note about greviance redressal camp regarding various Irrigational issues during ongoing Kharif season in Awantipora.
The statement reads as :
In view of the emerging drought like conditions due to scanty rainfall in certain areas of the district , a greviance redressal camp is being held at Awantipora under the chairmanship of District Development Commissioner on 19 .08.2020 at 11 am.
The camp is being organised with the backdrop of receding water level in the river Jhelum and other Nallahs besides the influx of scores of complaints being received on daily basis regarding the Irrigation Schemes and non functioning of lift irrigation pumps.
The camp will be attended by all the officers of the line departments including mechanical irrigation division , Irrigation and flood control , irrigation construction division ,Jal Shakti etc.
In this regard general public is appealed to attend the camp and have their grievances redressed on spot.
Besides all ADCs, Tehsildars & BDOs shall also remain present in the camp to be chaired by DDC.
The administration has strictly advised all concerned to follow the social distancing norms & SOPs of COVID-19 at the meeting venue.
